Welcome to episode sixteen of the Life and Death of Jeff.

You can listen to the full shocking episode by clicking the video below, or read the following transcript.

In this episode we’ll be covering the curious death of Epstein, leading up to his autopsy. Then we’ll be listening to my shocking interview with jeffrey’s brother, Mark.

Now, without further delay, let’s dive straight in.

After being found unconscious in his cells, and having accused his cellmate of trying to murder him, Jeffrey was immediately placed on suicide watch. Moved to a special cell, the lights in the ceiling remained on 24/7, a further source of contention for an already tormented inmate. His jumpsuit replaced by a large blue, tear-resistant anti-suicide smock, he remained under constant observation, a prison psychologist strolling to his cell and peeping through the food slot every 15 minutes.

“2:30am: Inmate lying on bed trying to remember what happened”, the psychologist scribbled down in the Suicide Watch Observation Log.

“2:45am: Inmate sitting on bed”.

“3:00am: Inmate sitting on bed”.

“3:15am: Lt. takes pictures of inmate”.

“3:30 to 4:15am: Inmate sitting on bed”.

“4:30am: Inmate standing at door talking”.

“4:45am: Inmate standing at door talking”.

“5:00am: Inmate sitting on bed”.

During this time, officers returned to Jeffrey’s SHU cell where they were observed by another inmate using a video camera to film the scene of the incident before removing the makeshift noose. A physician assistant assessed him for injuries, noting in her records that Jeffrey was ‘co-operative, alert, and oriented’. He did not appear distressed, she appended. In fact, he was smiling throughout the assessment.

“Why am I on suicide watch?” he asked her. “We just need to establish what happened to you” came her reply.

Back in the Health Services Unit, Jeffrey had stated firmly that the alleged attack wasn’t an isolated incident, that Nick had been trying to extort him for days, bullying him in the hope that he’d stump up a chunk of cash, and threatening him with physical violence should he fail to do so. He asserted he’d reported Nick’s threats and intimidation to his lawyers, but not to prison staff, citing his belief that they would turn a blind eye, and he’d suffer the potentially brutal consequences of being labelled a ‘snitch’.
